Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)

Unlike medications that circulate throughout your whole body, TMS targets the specific region of the brain where the problem originates. It's been FDA-cleared for depression since 2008 and has since helped hundreds of thousands of people — including many who had tried multiple antidepressants without success.

When depression doesn't respond to medication, it's often because the brain's mood-regulating circuits — specifically an area called the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex — have become underactive. TMS works by delivering precise, focused magnetic pulses to that area, gently stimulating neural activity and helping the brain form new, healthier pathways.

This Treatment May Be For You If . . .

TMS is administered in-office by a licensed provider. Sessions are non-invasive and comfortable — most people read, listen to music, or simply rest during treatment. A typical TMS course includes:

  • A comprehensive psychiatric evaluation to confirm TMS candidacy
  • Motor threshold testing to calibrate the treatment to your brain
  • Targeted magnetic pulse delivery to the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex
  • Monitoring by your provider throughout each session
  • A gradual taper schedule based on your individual response

Because TMS requires no sedation, you can drive yourself to and from standard sessions and return to work the same day. Treatment response typically builds over weeks, with many patients noticing meaningful improvements in mood, motivation, and energy.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the ONE-D protocol different from standard TMS?

Standard TMS involves one session per day, five days a week, for six to eight weeks — typically 30 to 36 total visits. The ONE-D protocol delivers the same therapeutic course in a single day using an accelerated iTBS schedule and neuroplasticity-enhancing medications. Both protocols target the same brain region; ONE-D simply compresses the timeline using the latest neuroscience.

Who is NOT a candidate for TMS?

TMS is not recommended for individuals with metal implants in or near the head (including cochlear implants or certain aneurysm clips), a history of seizures, or certain neurological conditions. A thorough evaluation with your provider will clarify candidacy.

Does insurance cover TMS therapy?

Many commercial insurance plans cover standard TMS for treatment-resistant depression. Our team will verify your benefits and assist with any prior authorization requirements. The ONE-D protocol is an advanced, accelerated approach; coverage varies, and our team will walk you through your options transparently.

We accept most commercial insurance plans. Please contact us for more information.
